Wednesday in Tucson...

Last Christmas with gud duggies "under" the tree.

Best presents ever !
and the cutest !

The comic "Crankshaft" had a sweet strip on Sunday.
It was five toned black and white drawing of the main character  Ed remembering as a child getting the Sears and Roebuck catalog in the mail, with a look of joy on his face. The last box is "today" in color and he is the same happy person while looking at the Seed Catalog.
That just brought back so many memories.
I remember coming home from school and there on the kitchen table would be the Magical Sears and Roebuck Catalog.
My Mum and I would then sit down and look through it together.
Those were special times, it seems like it was just yesterday.
Of course when I was younger it was the toys first, bikes, clothes and then all the other stuff for the home. We would look at it and talk about what we liked or disliked.
We continued this even when I was in High School.  I think the catalogs stopped coming in the mail and I by then I was then at University.
We didn't have a lot of money, in fact we moved quite often.  But sitting at the kitchen table with my Mum and dreaming always stayed the same.
As I look back, I know now, my Mum had such hard times but we children never knew it. She was a Magician and Sears and Roebuck was our friend.
When my children were small, so many years ago, we had no Sears catalogs but I would take them to Toys R US the week before December and we would look.  Just to see what was fun or interesting. No electronic gadgets then, this was over 30 years ago.
Another day, a trip to the book store and of course lunch after was always a huge hit.
Not quite sitting at the kitchen table with a catalog but close.
I think today kids are really missing out on dreaming and the special part.
Computers, game players, smart phones, TV's and what ever the new "must have" item is seen on TV or the computer is at their finger tips. With a click and a zap it is theirs.
Instant everything.
If it breaks, get lost just buy a new one. Everything is disposable and yet nothing is special or important.
So much at their fingertips and yet I see no joy or the excitement that I had.
My family may have been "poor" by today standard but I think we were so much better off than the "need it" kids of today. It is their loss I think.

I hope and wish there is a dream and a little magic in everyone's Christmas this year.

parley view parsnip... stamps

Fridays post was about the new stamps and stickers I ordered for Christmas,
featuring The Square Ones.  Of course !
I was asked about can you order/make stamps in the US ?
Yes, our postal service allows you to design you stamps,
with their approval.
They are more expensive than regular stamps but for me worth it.
I think mail, real mail that you send to family and friends,
should be interesting and fun the minute you see it.
For me that starts with the envelope or box.
The USPS always has very interesting and beautiful selection of stamps to buy.

I logged to the USPS web page and designed these stamps.
They are from stamp.com

Or you can just click on the buy button on your photo page
and they will take you to several printing company that will order them for you.

Some stickers from last year.

This years all puppies

with no border.

This years Christmas stamp.
I love the Christmas stamps that the Postal Service sells every year.
In fact I collect stamps and frame the ones I like. They are little works of art.
I saved and framed the Christmas stamps I bought in England one year.
But this year I thought I would let good old dog Watson get a little more attention.

parley view parsnip.... Christmas Cards

My Monday post about what is going on around my home.
It is Christmas card time.

Yes I am a card person !
I worked for Hallmark and just about every other card company for years.
I love to send mail.
Postcard, letters,  notes, and not just the e-mail kind.
I do like e-mail and use it all the time but there is a time and a place for it.

I like getting mail, real mail, mail you can hold in your hand mail !
Besides ones Birthday, Christmas is the time to send a card to family and friend
to share joyous good wishes and the hope for a better New Year.

I have read all the whinny excuses,
My # 1 favorite is,
Carbon footprint, love that one ! as they drive their big gas guzzling car to the gym.
or refuse to use the bus or train.
Don't have the time, is # 2 while they play with the i-phone, tablet or other electronic toys.
They seem to be unable to pull themselves away from that glowing screen.

One time a year is not to hard to put aside one football game or a TV show
to write some cards. Or better yet write them while watching TV.
If your can't afford to send cards and the cost of a stamp, I so understand.
Or your religion forbids Santa I understand.
But for all other excuses,  Santa is watching, oh forget Santa,
The Square Dogs are watching
and it could get messy.
Just saying...

Many years ago I designed the Twelve Days Of Christmas
That took care of twelve years, it was nice having the idea already
and just work on the design.
After moving back to Tucson I decided to draw The Twelve Days based in Arizona.
Here are the first three days.

The back of the card and of course the Square Ones make an appearence.

Here is the first day old and new.

and here is a hint of this years card.
It should be done already but it is not...

Ack... I really need to only take photos in the day.
They come out so dark and dull when I take the photos at night.

Square Dog Friday... woof !

It is Friday again
best day of the week,
according to The Square Ones...
So lets woof it !

Daughter and I found this cute Christmas paper at Cost Plus.
I usually do not buy wrapping paper.
 but this was very cute.
They will be reused many times.
"La Tarjey" has a Chocolate Dachshund their special Christmas paper.
So our family of dogs is covered this year.

I also found this very cute placemats set for my Granddaughter.

here are all the cute designs...

you turn them over and you can play games.
I will be saving this for next year till she is a bit older
and can have fun coloring and playing the games.
.............................................

I was stripping the guest room bed,
which always signals  The Square Ones
to jump in and have fun burrowing in the sheets on the floor.
I left the room to answer the phone
and I turned around to see thehamish drinking water
wearing a pillow case.

yesh i drinkin' water
gots a pillow case on me
and a drippie beard

you gots' problem with that !

Now you would think he would shake it off
but he will just walk around till it falls off.
??????????????
so very thehamish.

Now I swear I am not the crazy cat lady with 25 cats who lives down the street

And as much as I love Scotties, I don't have a massive collection of them.
Nor do I have clothes with dancing Scotties, or Scotties playing poker on them.
But that would be awesome ! Really awesome ! Super awesome !
Awesome !
But I need this !
I really need this.
When you lose your keys clap your hands and he woofs !
He Woofs !
OMG ! He Woofs !
He Woofs !
I will be clapping my hands all the time
His little nose is a flashlight.
How cool is that.
Did I mention He Woofs !

Here is the real Scottie who is the best !

My sweet baboo Watson !
I lurve him.

Wednesday with Waldie... and other stuff

Monday Waldie came for a visit, and he brought along daughter.
The nice tall person who plays with the Square Ones.
Then Waldie got tired
and became "The Princess An The Pea"

All curled up for a nap.

just like a tiny coffee bean.

ummmm thehamish wanting to know whot is going on ?
im' hearin the camera but im' not there
im' thinkin' i should be there
why not ?

whot no thehamish in the photo ?
oh woe is me

im' thinkin' photo better whit thehamish.

Daughter came over and went grocery shopping with me.
In fact she took pity on my lack of fun spicy food
I am glutten and nightshade free for six months.
As thehamish would say "oh woe is me"
And made some pickled radishes with carrots.
The green item on top is a left over tomatillo that escaped the chopping board
for Green Tomatillo Salasa Verde sauce daughter made.

Chicken was added to the sauce.
Then she made Flat Enchiladas.

Layering three corn totoriallias with the sauce.

then top with green onions, green olives

add some cheese and a few more green onions.

now tucked away in the freezer.

pretty !

This was so good
Daughter is a great cook, she is vegan but can cook anything.
No recipe needed.
Ack ! just looked up tomatillo and they are a nightshade !
I was under the impression I could eat them.
Bummer !
They now go on the do not eat list.
Oh well it was great while it lasted !
Woe is me !
Son can eat them all now.

Meanwhile, Watson is outside enjoying the lovely Fall weather before Winter comes.
Good old dogs get to do that.
